1) Tell us about yourself.
I am a 37 year old woman trying to find her way in this beautiul raw world. Like everyone else I am just doing the best I can. My life took a huge turn when I was 29. Suffering severely with Ross River Fever my body started to collapse under the weight of it, and a lifetime of other things. It all but shut down. I wasn’t able to walk, talk, blink or breathe, very well, unassisted. After 12 months of tests I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia; as well presenting with an array of other auto-immune conditions. Imagine the simplest thing and my body couldn’t do it. I was sporting a cocktail of toxicity and ailments, which is really what CFS is – everything rolled into one. Every experience I could have seemed to be handed to me. I spent years not really being able to get out of bed and not being able to engage. My family would look into my eyes and see vacancy on the other side. My life went from being a high-flying socially apt Sports Marketing & Brand Managing career girl, in London, to a depleted fragile tiny nothing human, in my childhood bedroom, in rural NSW. There are no words for the struggle. The grief. The pain. But there are also no words for the silver lining. The blessing. The gift.
That’s where the next chapter of my life began. I fought to survive. I fought to heal. And I fought to find me again. Whoever that was. At the time I had no idea how monumental the shift would be but I am a completely evolved person on the other side of it. I am connected. And conscious. And awake. I am not ‘through’ it as such. I still have my struggles. And my limitations. I am still very raw and real. But that is my reality. That is all of our realities. Because we are human. But, when we are truly awake and are emotionally serving ourselves, knowledge becomes power and acceptance becomes peace. And true growth and strength actually start to take shape.
2) What inspired you to start Green Soul?
Green Soul was born out of my own health battle. Through fighting to heal and to serve myself I have studied many things, experienced many things, done many things. I now offer all of this to others searching to become the best version of themselves. Green Soul embodies who I am and what I believe in. It offers a space of love and nurture. A space that is safe for my clients to explore their own demons and truths.
Basically, I am an Intuitive Healer and Holistic Health Coach. I connected so deeply with all that my body responded to that I now practice Bowen Therapy, am an Empath, Energy Worker, Kids Yoga Teacher, Meditator, Writer, Recipe Creator, Wholefoods Advocate, Yogi and East meets West lover of Ayurveda and Qigong.
Green Soul is a healing space created to empower and educate.
Teaching people how to connect to themselves. My work specializes in talking to the emotional body so that stories that are keeping clients blocked there can be heard. It is only when we sit with our emotional body, and release at that level, that true wisdom and long-lasting changes come through to the physical body which then balances our whole self.
3) What do you love most about your Sunlighten Sauna?
My far-infrared sauna has been a huge part of my journey. I discovered Sunlighten five years ago, through a beautiful friend at the time, and loved the back story of how Sunlighten came to be here in Australia (the founder was a CFS sufferer as well). His story resonated with me so I gave it a go. My sister lives in Melbourne so I spent 6 weeks with her and used the Solo, at Sunlighten’s Sauna Rooms, 3 times a week. I wouldn’t say I noticed a massive shift immediately, some people claim to feel like a different person as soon as they have their first one, but I was feeling something. Things were moving. Good and bad. And as long as we’re moving, we’re not stuck. At the end of my 6 weeks in Melbourne I knew I couldn’t stop using the Solo so I rented one for another 6 weeks (and had it delivered to NSW) and then bought it. For the first year I used it at least 3 times a week. Now I use it once a week. I love it. For someone with limited energy, at times, I can jump in it and know that my body is sweating at a deep level. My body is detoxifying and letting go of what isn’t serving it. And the sauna gets my life force moving and creating space for renewed energy.
4) How has it added value to your business?
My message to clients is that one piece to a puzzle is not enough when trying to make a whole. Whatever it is that we’re seeking it is not packaged up in only one support system. I encourage clients to work with many tools. From diet changes, to better hydration, to exercises, to mindfulness, to meditation, to detoxification practices, to many healing modalities. It’s about connecting with many things so that we can find what works for us. Through the healing modality that I work with (ie bowen therapy) I communicate directly with the client’s cellular memory, triggering stories and blockages that are stuck at this level. We give them air and room to move so they can journey out of the body. As things are stirred up other techniques need to be employed to support the process. They help clear things out of the body so we don’t have to do all of the work on our own. And this is where the Solo Sauna adds a beautiful layer of support. I tend to use the sauna with a healing session. It’s a tailored experience that is designed for the body to feel safe and held. And for someone who isn’t well it is a great chance to be able to lie down (in the solo system) and have it do the work for you without having to over-exert themselves too much.
5) Any other comments/thoughts?
For anyone who hasn’t used a far-infrared sauna before I would highly recommend that you do. And you don’t have to be ‘chronically’ ill to benefit. Like everything in life we need to look after ourselves before we break.
These are lifestyle changes, not quick fixes and Sunlighten can offer this.
The sauna systems can offer you a chance at making some real shifts. In this modern world we are so used to wanting everything now. And wanting everything else to fix us. But nothing else can fix us. And we tend to avoid and ignore until we can no longer avoid and ignore. We are the only ones that can help ourselves.
And while it’s not easy, it is worth it, we just need to find the tools to support us as we take back self-ownership and self-love.
My most favourite quote is by French Author Marcel Proust. He said ‘the real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes’. A very wise perspective.
