How to Plan for a Home Sauna

How to plan for a home sauna

Who wouldn’t love having a sauna at home? Stepping in after a busy day, putting your feet up and relaxing in your own personal retreat. Living the dream! It is easy to achieve with a little planning – here are some tips.

What is an infrared sauna anyway?

An increasingly popular trend is to install an infrared sauna into your home.

In contrast to traditional high-heat saunas, Solocarbon™ infrared heating is highly customisable and a much more enjoyable experience as well as lower running costs. So you can enjoy a deep, detoxifying sweat and many more health benefits in a controlled comfortable temperature.

An infrared sauna by Sunlighten uses infrared heating, which is safe and healthy for all living things. Far from a new technology, infrared heat has been used in a variety of health and human movement applications for many years. Sunlighten saunas have developed a refined heating technology called Solocarbon™, which is used in day spas, gyms, training studios and health practices worldwide.

How do you plan for a sauna?

Some forward planning helps to get the right sauna for your home. When you install a sauna, don’t just hope that it will fit into your desired area, measure the area to know exactly the optimum dimensions!

Infrared saunas are perfect for indoors however if your space is outdoors then you’ll need to protect your sauna from the weather. Locate the sauna on a dry flat surface such as a deck or patio, it will need a roof above and protection for the sides. If rain and harsh sun are still a problem then a specially designed Marine Grade Cover will be needed to fully protect your sauna.

Take into account that installation of the sauna in an area below standard room temperature can increase the warm up time.

Don’t forget the electrical specifications!

An infrared sauna is easy to operate and install, as only power is required, there is no need for plumbing, drainage or ventilation. Be sure to check the relevant electrical requirements of the sauna to ensure you get full power from the heaters. However, if you are unsure, our friendly consultants are more than happy to help you. In the meantime, on each of our product pages, see the ‘electrical specifications’ section.

Assembling the sauna

Your sauna will arrive flat packed and should be assembled by 2 or more people. If you’d like Sunlighten to organise your assembly, our Service Department can provide a quote for a recommended installation company to install your sauna and remove all the packaging.

So, what is required to begin planning for a sauna?
